Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik

We arrived in Dubrovnik after coaching through Bosnia and Herzegovina most of Sunday so there was not much to write about! Thought I would condense it into one post! When we arrived we were greeted by our hosts with a fruit basket, sweets, a bottle of wine and what I thought was some lovely olive oil…which turned out to be limoncello…good job we didn’t cook with it like originally planned!

Day 1

After a late start catching up with sleep we headed to the old town. Being by the sea makes it feel like we’re on holiday, which is a laugh considering we haven’t worked in 24 days! This is definitely the most touristy place we’ve been so far. Tour groups are so easy to over hear so we can get a pretty good idea without having to pay anything. Our main aim today was to walk around the city walls giving a view over the sea and the old town. Eleanor took it upon herself to describe her favourite walls (the thick and high ones that are not easy to trip over vs the thin and low ones leading to certain death). After the walls we explored the picturesque old town, had a coffee, swore repeatedly at flies landing on me and then having a wonderful video chat with Grandad and Mum. Tomorrow…beach!

Day 2

Beach day! It really is feeling like a proper holiday at the moment with the holiday tourists and the large amount of excursion sales people. For late lunch / dinner we spotted a seafood restaurant, Barba, that sold octopus burgers. Intrigued we were about to order when I spotted the people behind us having a huge platter which had a little bit of everything for two. Budget out of the window we gorged on octopus burgers, prawn tempura, calamari, fried oysters and an octopus salad. For once I could not finish.

After the meal we walked to another beach which had a bar along the sea front located in a cave, finishing our short stay in Dubrovnik with wine by the sea front. Wonderful 🙂
Next stop it’s 8 hours up the Croation coast to Zadar where I’ve been told to get the ice cream. The unofficial food tour contines…
