My last day of work was Friday 12th leaving behind handling sample request forms for mbovis and slaughtering cows! The perfect job for a pescatarian! Instead of a long post describing everything we did we thought we would summarise our favourite parts about living in Wellington and some photos of our time there.
The Waterfront – the sea, boats and beaches, all on the city front steps. Notable events were new year, chinese new year and the hiring of crocodile cars (which we mistook as froggie cars, despite the obvious eyes and teeth…)
Cuba Street – Vibrant, colourful, hipster central and lots of good food such as Sal’s Pizza, Lord of the Fries and the Vegan store. On Friday and Saturday night they had a weekly food market and while we were there it featured the lantern festival, part of the Chinese new year celebrations.
The Botanical Gardens – looking over the central business district the best way to get here is the cable car! While we were in Wellington we saw Hamlet performed live.
The Beehive – home of the executive branch of government, right next door to the parliament. Eleanor had an amazing view over all of it from her office!
Te Papa – the biggest museum in Wellington, when we were here the terracotta warriors were on tour.
Zealandia – the first urban fenced ecosantuary, so close to the main busy city.
Somes Island – the largest of three islands in the northern half of Wellington Harbour, once used as a quarantine centre.
Beaches – so many surround the city, each as beautiful as the last.
The Library – a special mention to Eleanor’s favourite place as it was shut down due to earthquake safety measures, many MANY books were read by Eleanor from the central library and it’s where I finished off the winter edition of the Woodrush Star. It also featured this picture which provided much amusement.
The Arcade – we went so often we were given VIP membership. From the photobooth when we both thought we looked “ok”

Goodbye Wellington, it’s been wonderful.
looks wonderful, cant wait to see you
