Zadar

Dubrovnik -> Zadar

Another travel day! 8 hour 8am bus from Dubrovnik to Zadar. This has been the easiest journey and Eleanor had her excited face on as the bus arrived early! Great way to beat anxiety is for everything to go fine!
When we arrived in Zadar it became clear half way through our 45 minute walk with our heavy bags to the apartment that Uber existed! This blog is definitely not backpacking on a budget…something we at some point need to bear in mind later down the line. Totally worth the £2.60 Uber ride though!

Day 1

Early start to make the most of our time in Zadar. As the weather was nice and we were near a small beach resort I thought a morning swim in the Adriatic sea would be nice! In the afternoon we explored the Zadar old town which included: the Zadar Roman Forum, Roman ruins in it’s undisturbed layout; the five wells which provided the city with fresh water and the most fascinating sea organ, an experimental musical instrument which plays music through sea waves and tubes located underneath marble steps. We spent the evening listening to the sounds of the sea organ watching the sun set, apparently one of Alfred Hitchcock’s favourite sunsets…according to Eleanor!

By far the best thing in Zadar was yet to come…
When I first went to Berlin with Eleanor in 2011 I discovered Milka Drops, the best chocolate confection I’ve ever eaten (sorry Cadbury). I could only ever find it in this one shop despite seeing Milka products on other holidays since. When we first started this adventure, in every shop in every country I looked for them and with every disappointment my hopes faded. Until Zadar! Tears of joy! And a very confused yet bemused shop assistant when I ended up buying every packet on the shelf.

Day 2

Ah the trappings of a private apartment, especially one with a washing machine! In preparation for the next few locations of hostels we’ve washed everything and had a relaxing Netflix morning (Brooklyn 99, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and for me, the Haunting of Hill House). Another lovely walk around Zadar and parks in the afternoon and for Eleanor to say goodbye to her favourite Zadar attraction, the Sea Organ!
Next stop…Ljubljana!
